Week 4

I was curious about the article, “Is There Love after a Baby”. Being divorced with two kids I could see just how the candle burns out over the years. However there are different views on the subject. Some couples think having a baby will solve all their problems but studies have shown that men and women are more likely to be depressed after having a kid.

Having a kid is a huge responsibility and you are pretty much surrendering your body for 9 months. You will be eating for two, you will be tired constantly, you will be tired constantly… and that’s just the pregnancy. Having a kid is stressful even in the best situations so it’s really a hard thing to go through if your relationship is on the rocks.

I believe the biggest thing to have in mind is to make sacrifices for each other. If both parents are giving things up for the good of their family and showing they want things to work you’re in good shape. Attitude is everything and you also have to do things to remind each other of love.

  1. Spot on. people do not realize everything that comes with children in general, but especially now days. People need to realize that children aren't a solution, poison, or side note. On how to deal with issues, knowing when to give up on an argument as a compromise for peace is always a great deal when things get grumbly/weird. Good post.

  2. I know a few people who have had a baby hoping it would bring them closer or "fix" the issues in their relationship. Unfortunately it likely backfires and makes the situation worse. Then a child is brought into an unhealthy relationship or end up living with parents who have split up.

  3. I agree! Knowing when to let go of the argument and compromise for the sake of your relationship is HUGE! Its one I am not very good at but working on every day. Caring for a child is one of the hardest jobs in the world. The most rewarding but I have seen first hand the tolls it takes on a relationship no matter the starting condition. Its a job not to be taken lightly and should be something people realize is a forever thing. Not just a fix to a problem or a means to a better relationship.

  4. I think I have said this before having a child in the most selfish thing one or two people can choose to do. I do not mean this in a negative way. A child is not asked to be brought into this world it is a choice( most of the time) a choice by two people to bring another living life into this world and it should be for the best reasons not as a fix or maybe this will work to make a situation better...

  5. I really enjoyed your advice that you gave, a baby is one of the hardest things you will ever go through mentally and physically. Both partners must be willing to put in equal amounts of work.
